Why Use COVID-19 Ready Voice Actors
The best PSAs and explainer videos are clear and informative, delivered with calmness and authority. To communicate your message effectively, you’ll need a professional voice actor for your explainer video. The COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic has changed the way we do everything, but the talented voiceover artists of Blue Wave Voiceover have been able to work the exact same way they always have! Even before the pandemic hit, our talented roster worked day in and day out from their fully-equipped professional home studios. They are ready, willing and able to deliver professional recordings from these very same studios. And when we say “home studio” – we are not referring to a celebrity’s ad-hoc blanket fort that you may have seen scrolling on Instagram. Our voice actors have equipped their home studios with sound isolation booths, professional microphones and pre-amps and remote connection technology like Source Connect, ISDN, ipDTL, and phone patches to deliver broadcast-quality audio to clients around the world.
How to Write a PSA
If you’re trying to get a message about COVID-19 across for the greater good – consider a PSA. Public service announcements (PSAs) must be linked to a reputable 501(c)(3) tax-exempt, non-profit organization. For radio and TV, PSAs are generally 15, 30 or 60 seconds long. You may want to write multiple versions of your PSA script to fit all of these lengths. To learn more about how many words you’ll need to fill 30 or 60 seconds, check out our handy guide to voiceover script word counts.
For an effective PSA, keep it simple and authentic. Before you write your PSA script, make a list of what the listeners or viewers really need to know. Are you providing them with general information, or do you want them to actually DO something, such as wear a mask to protect others from the spread of COVID-19? If the latter, make sure your call to action is clear. Be direct. You can even ask your voiceover artist to record a few different versions of your call-to-action so that you can review it with your team and/or client to ensure your message and ask are coming across loud and clear.

How to Write an Explainer Video Script
Brands use explainer videos to explain to potential customers how and why to use a product, essentially presenting themselves as the solution to a problem. Explainer videos can also be used internally to educate employees. During the COVID-19 pandemic, many businesses, organizations, governments and hospitals have used explainer videos to introduce and clarify new policies, procedures, products, and services such as mask-wearing, hand washing and social distancing. Since you can no longer accomplish the delivery of these important messages in a staff meeting, many businesses and organizations are turning to video production companies, animators and professional voice artists to deliver this important information to their employees, customers and clients.
Start by setting up the problem (or thing that must be done). Then explain how you can solve the problem. Next, focus on the how and why, which will make up the bulk of your explainer video. In the end, focus on the action you want the listener or viewer to take.
Throughout the video, your voiceover artist will speak directly but in a friendly way. An explainer video should not feel like an aggressive sales pitch or something meant to stoke fear. Your explainer video also doesn’t necessarily need to be clever or funny. During COVID-19, people appreciate the facts. Aim to be helpful.
